Best Way to Get to Venice from the airport

dist

For most visitors, flying into Venice is the quickest and most convenient option. There are two main airports serving Venice:

From Marco Polo Airport

This is the main airport for Venice, located just a short distance from the city center. To reach Venice from Marco Polo Airport, you have several options:

Bus Service to Venice:

  • ACTV Bus Route No. 5-AeroBus: This bus takes about 20 minutes to reach Piazzale Roma, a main tourist terminal in Venice. From Piazzale Roma, ACTV waterbuses depart to the historic center of Venice. The bus stop is located just a few meters from the airport's arrivals exit.

  • Alilaguna Water bus Service: Another option is the Alilaguna Waterbus, which directly connects the airport to various points in Venice, including the main tourist areas.

Bus Service to Mestre:

  • ACTV Bus Routes No. 15 and 45: These buses take you to Mestre, a town on the mainland, and its railway station. The bus stops are adjacent to the AeroBus stop.

For a faster journey, you can choose between the Alilaguna water transfer and the ACTV AeroBus transfer. Both options are designed to get you to Venice quickly and comfortably.

From Treviso Airport

Treviso Airport (TSF), located about 30 kilometers from Venice, mainly serves budget airlines. To reach Venice from Treviso:

Express Bus Service to Venice:

  • ATVO Bus Express: This bus takes about 60 minutes to reach Piazzale Roma, one of the main tourist terminals in Venice. From Piazzale Roma, ACTV waterbuses will take you to various parts of Venice.

Express Bus Service to Mestre:

  • ATVO Bus Express: This bus also connects to Mestre and its railway station, taking approximately 50 minutes.

How to Navigate Venice Once You Arrive

Navigating Venice can seem daunting due to its unique layout and extensive network of waterways. However, with the right information, you’ll find it easy and enjoyable to explore this beautiful city. Here's how to get around Venice once you arrive.

Getting Around by Water

Venice’s public transport system is primarily water-based, with various types of boats servicing the city and its lagoon.

1. Vaporettos (Water Buses): These are the main form of public transportation in Venice, and they operate on three main lines:

  • City Centre Lines (Lines 1 and 2): These lines travel along the Grand Canal and Giudecca Canal, connecting key locations from Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma to Lido di Venezia.

  • Gira Città Lines (Lines 3, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2, 6): These lines extend to Murano and Lido di Venezia, providing access to more parts of the city and its islands.

  • Linee Lagunari (Lines 12, 13, 14, 19): These lines connect the outermost parts of the lagoon, reaching places like Marco Polo Airport, Treporti, Punta Sabbioni, Chioggia, Fusina, and S. Giuliano.

2. Ferry Boats: From Tronchetto, you can take ferry boats to Lido di Venezia, Punta Sabbioni-Cavallino, and Pellestrina.

3. Alilaguna Waterbus Service: This service has five lines that connect Marco Polo Airport and the Cruise Terminal to central Venice, Lido, Murano, and Punta Sabbioni. It’s a convenient option if you’re arriving by air or sea.

Getting Around by Land

While Venice is best known for its waterways, there are also land transport options available, particularly on the mainland and surrounding islands.

1. Bus Network:

  • Mainland Services: The bus network covers the mainland areas of Mestre and Marghera, extending to Dese, Morocco, Trivignano, Chirignago, and Malcontenta.

  • Island Services: Buses also service Lido and Pellestrina, with integrated lines reaching Chioggia and Punta Sabbioni.

  • Chioggia Municipality: There are bus services up to Valli, Civè, Cavanella D'Adige, and Isola Verde.

  • Spinea Municipality: This includes the areas of Crea and Fornase.

The bus network also extends to the provinces of Padua, Treviso, and Rovigo, where it connects with other major local transport companies.

Taxis and Water Taxis

1. Land Taxis: These are available mainly in the mainland areas like Mestre and Marghera.
